Say what you want about the Cincinnati Bengals, but extending defensive tackle Geno Atkins and defensive end Carlos Dunlap before the season started was very smart. Atkins is arguably the best defensive tackle in the NFL behind Aaron Donald, we all know that Donald is about to get a boat load of cash so it was smart to handle his deal before the Rams back up the Brinks truck.
Dunlap is a top-tier defensive end and with a guy like Khalil Mack being due for a big pay-day you have to handle it before the price increases. If they would’ve let him become unrestricted then who knows what they would’ve had to match.
Atkins got four years $65.3 million and Dunlap got three years $45 million.
With these extensions it is a high possibility Atkins and Dunlap spend the rest of their time with the Bengals.
#Bengals make extensions for Carlos Dunlap (through 2021) and Geno Atkins (through 2022) official.

Geno Atkins: 4-year extension for $65.3M, $25.5M in first year, per source. More than 50% contract($37.5M) paid in first 2 years. $16.3M yearly average is highest yearly average signed by a 30+ year old non-QB in NFL history.
