Cincinnati Bearcats midseason report card: Defense

Defensive line: A

This unit is led by two senior defensive tackles points to Marquise Copeland and Cortez Broughton. Copeland and Broughton have been great all season and acquire a lot of attention from the opposing offensive line. Copeland is fourth on the team in tackles with 25, 3.0 tackles for loss and .5 sacks. Broughton has 21 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks which is first on the team.  What else is great for his unit is the play of the backup defensive tackles Curtis Brooks, Marcus Brown and Elijah Ponder.

Kimoni Fitz, Ethan Tucky and Michael Pitts have been very good at the end position. Fitz normally gets the most reps, but Tucky and Pitts are pretty even with Pitts getting more snaps. All three ends are very athletic and freshman Malik Vann has been getting snaps also. Fitz has 24 tackles,  4.0 tackles for loss and 1.0 sacks. Tucky has 14 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and a blocked punt. Pitts has 11 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
