Cincinnati Bearcats midseason report card: Defense

Special teams: B

Punter James Smith has been outstanding all year with an average of 45.0 yards per punt. Smith has punted 30 times, nine have been fair caught, 11 have been inside the 20 and six have been longer than 50 yards.

Cole Smith has been solid, but because of the effiecency of the offense he hasn’t had many field goal attempts. Smith is 2-of-3 in field goal attempts one was blocked. The redshirt freshman has a nice leg, but they haven’t needed it much.

In the punt return game they haven’t had any explosive plays with Auden Knight so far, his long for the season is 14 yards. He has had 12 returns for a total of 38 yards.

The kick return game has been solid led by safety James Wiggins who has a long of 35 yards. Wiggins has had seven returns for a total of 172 yards.
