The Red Sox Outfield vs. The Dodgers Bullpen: A World Series Preview

Prediction Time

*sigh*

My beloved Houston Astros were eliminated and I’m bummed. Even worse, they were eliminated by the Red Sox which gave them the right to be in this World Series. Oh man, I really want to go against them but I have to think this through objectively, not subjectively.

The Red Sox, like the Dodgers, have power-hitters. They also have capable starting pitchers and closers. However, Los Angeles’ bullpen has been terrific against its opponents while the Red Sox’ looked rattled at times (though it came against the Yankees and Astros, two 100-win teams which were very difficult for them to eliminate).

Conversely, the Dodgers have fewer rest days as they had to go the distance against the Brewers to be in this position, which can be helpful for teams looking to stay hot in October. Look at the 2012 Detroit Tigers for reference, as they were swept in four games by the San Francisco Giants after being the sweepers themselves in the ALCS against the Yankees. Having more rest days don’t always mean a surefire win for the Red Sox, so they can take that into account for the future.

With that being said, this series will be too close to call; but since I have to make a prediction for the sake of closing out this piece, I’ll have to say that the Red Sox will become champions in 6 games. Let’s hope that my jinx will be effective by the time the season ends.

It’s the final round of baseball, gentlemen.

Play ball.
