The Cincinnati Bearcats traveled down to Dallas, Texas to face the SMU Mustangs to get back on the winning side of things coming off of their first loss of the season. To keep pace with the other top tier teams in the conference the Bearcats need a big road win.
The Bearcats struck first with when Desmond Ridder hit Kahlil Lewis for a 32 yard touchdown. SMU answered to tie the game and eventually took the lead before a huge drive by the Bearcats led to a huge 41 yard field goal by freshman Cole Smith. Smith tied the game up at 20 a week after he missed three field goals on the road, it is pretty cool to see the young man bounce back in a big way.
In overtime safety James Wiggins had the play of the game with a 86 yard pick six to get the Bearcats the 26-20 win. A week after coming short they took care of business in Dallas to become 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the AAC East.
They held the Mustangs to 23 yards rushing on the day on 24 attempts. That’s what you call stopping the run. Ridder had a great bounce back game going 33-for-50 passing for 352 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Lewis had his best game of the season with 12 catches for 174 yards and two touchdowns.
Next week the Cincinnati will face Navy at Nippert Stadium to see if they can get win number eight on the season.
