Junior swingman Jarron Cumberland helped lead his team to a 2-0 record last week and now has been recognized by the American Athletic Conference. In two overtime games last week Cumberland averaged 18.0 points and 5.5 assists.

University of Cincinnati junior guard Jarron Cumberland (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington High School) has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
Cumberland averaged 18.0 points and 5.5 assists while helping lead Cincinnati to a 2-0 week with a pair of overtime victories. The wins improved Cincinnati to 14-3 overall and 3-1 in The American.
Cumberland’s efforts accounted for 11 of Cincinnati’s 12 overtime points in its 70-65 rally at Tulsa on Thursday, Jan. 10. He scored six points and assisted on the other Bearcats’ baskets in extended play while scoring 14 points overall against the Golden Hurricane.
Cumberland scored a game-high 22 points, making 11 of 12 free throws during Cincinnati’s 74-72 overtime home win over UConn on Saturday, Jan. 12. He also handed out a season-best seven assists against the Huskies. It marked Cumberland’s seventh 20-point game in 2018-19.
Earlier in the week, Cumberland was named to the Lute Olson Player of the Year Award Mid-Season Watch List. He was tabbed to the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Watch List and was voted a first team All-AAC selection in the preseason by league coaches.
A two-time AAC Player of the Week selection this season, Cumberland enters the week ranked among the league leaders in six categories: three-point percentage (first at .440), points (sixth at 16.9), free throw percentage (sixth at .813), three-pointers made (seventh at 2.4), assists (12th at 3.4) and assist-to-turnover ratio (13th at 1.4).
Cumberland was named to The American’s All-Rookie Team and was the AAC’s Co-Sixth Man of the Year in 2016-17.
