You can expect to pay taxes and Cincinnati Bearcats guard Jarron Cumberland to get a weekly award from the American Athletic Conference. Cumberland earned AAC Weekly Honor Roll after scoring 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a 73-68 win against SMU. Honestly the only reason he wasn’t player of the week is because the Bearcats only played one game last week.
Congrats to Jarron!

University of Cincinnati junior guard Jarron Cumberland (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington High School) was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
It marked the fourth consecutive week Cumberland has been recognized by the league. He was named the AAC Player of the Week each of the previous two weeks after being selected to the weekly honor roll on Jan. 14. In all, Cumberland has been tabbed the conference player of the week a league-high four times and a weekly honor roll recipient twice in 2018-19.
Cumberland scored a game-high 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting with five three-pointers, grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and handed out a team-best five assists to lead Cincinnati to its seventh consecutive win as the Bearcats topped SMU, 73-68, Saturday night at Fifth Third Arena.
The effort marked Cumberland’s league-best 11th 20-point game of the season, including his sixth during conference play and his fifth in a row at home. His 11 games with 20 or more points in 2018-19 are tied with Deonta Vaughn (11 during the 2007-08) for the second most in a season at Cincinnati during the Mick Cronin coaching era. Only Sean Kilpatrick has more, tallying 19 during the 2013-14 campaign.
Cumberland leads all conference scorers averaging 22.2 points during league action. He has led the Bearcats in scoring in eight of nine AAC games, including three times when he led UC in points, rebound and assists.
For the season, Cumberland is averaging 18.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 42.3 percent (55 of 130) from three-point range. He entered this week ranked among the league leaders in eight categories: three-point field goal percentage (second at .423), points (second at 18.7), three-pointers made (sixth at 2.5), assist-to-turnover ratio (10th at 1.3), assists (11th at 3.5), free throw percentage (12th at .768), steals (tied for 15th at 1.3) and minutes played (17th at 31.2).
Cumberland already has been named the league’s player of the year four times this season including each of the previous two weeks. Among his recent performances, Cumberland scored 16 of his game-high 25 points in the second half at Temple (Jan. 27) to help rally the Bearcats from a 14-point second-half deficit for a 72-68 victory. He tied a season high with five threes as part of a 23-point outing against Tulsa (Jan. 24). He registered a career-high 32 points on 9-of-20 shooting from the floor and 14-of-16 shooting at the free throw line against USF (Jan. 15). The effort helped Cumberland join Cincinnati’s 1,000-point club.
Cumberland was named to the Lute Olson Player of the Year Award Mid-Season Watch List in January. He was tabbed to the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Watch List and was voted a first team All-AAC selection in the preseason by league coaches.
Cumberland was named to The American’s All-Rookie Team and was the AAC’s Co-Sixth Man of the Year in 2016-17.
