What does the Joe Flacco trade mean for the Broncos?

The Baltimore Ravens traded quarterback Joe Flacco to the Denver Broncos. The trade won’t be official until March 13th, but most belief the Ravens will get anywhere from a 4th-5th round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft for the quarterback.

The Flacco trade confirms two things:

1. The Ravens have handed the keys over to Lamar Jackson
2. The one year Case Keenum experiment is over

The Ravens will save $10.5 million in cap space this year because of the deal. Flacco is still carries cap hits of $18.5 million (’19), $20.25 million (’20) and $24.25 million (’21). I’m guessing the Broncos will try to restructure Flacco’s deal, but even if they don’t I’m pretty sure Keenum’s time in Denver will be over are they going to pay him $18 million to be the primary backup? $7 million of his salary is guaranteed, maybe they will try to find a trade partner for him and if they can’t I’m pretty sure he will get his pink slip soon.

Flacco is an upgrade over Keenum, but is this a stop gap for their next quarterback or does John Elway think the 34 year old gunslinger fixes their quarterback problems?

Besides Peyton Manning, Elway hasn’t had any success picking quarterback in his tenure with his former team. If I was a betting man I think they still draft a quarterback between the 2nd and 5th round, but only time will tell.

What are your thoughts on this move?
