The Cincinnati Bearcats traveled to Hartford, Conn to face the Connecticut Huskies. Cincinnati came into the game with a six game winning streak against Connecticut. Could they push the streak to seven? The game at Fifth Third Arena was an 74-72 overtime battle.
The first half was didn’t go as planned if you had a script, but the Bearcats were still able to navigate on the road. Nysier Brooks was sattled with two fouls, Jarron Cumberland only scored two points in 17 minutes and Mamoudou Diarra scored six points and six rebounds in his action. Eliel Nsoseme had two fouls so that cleared the way for Diarra’s important minutes. Justin Jenifer was the leading scorer with seven points, Logan Johnson and Cane Broome both chipped in with four a piece. At the end of the half Trevon Scott made a put back right to put the Bearcats up 32-29. They won the rebounding battle 20-11, but were losing the turnover battle 9-6 which is uncharacteristic for a Mick Cronin coached team.

In the second half the Bearcats came on a 14-3 run and pushed the lead up to as much as 15 points. When the Bearcats got up 50-35 and UConn went on a 16-0 run to go up 51-50. Cumberland didn’t have a great game only finishing with eight points, mostly because of how UConn defended him, but the Bearcats were able to adapt. The Connecticut native Broome made two huge threes in a row to seal the game, both shots the Bearcats were up one until Broome added separation. Keith Williams made both late free throws, but the sophomore had a solid game on the road finishing with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Jenifer finished with 10 points.
