Huge news dropped today as offensive guard Clint Boling retired after eight seasons in the NFL. The 30 year old Boling was a staple of the Bengals offensive line during his tenure with the team.
Boling statement per Bengals.com:
“After eight years in the NFL, it is time for me to step away from the game due to medical reasons,” said Boling. “This is not an easy decision, but it is the right one for me, my wife Kelly and our two young girls. I want to thank the Brown family for giving me the opportunity to play my entire career with the Bengals. I also want to thank my teammates, coaches, fans and everyone who has supported me throughout my career.”
He was drafted in the 4th round in 2011 out of Georgia of the 114 games he played he started 112. Because of an undisclosed medical condition he had to step away from football.
This is a huge blow for the Bengals as they have lost rookie offensive tackle Jonah Williams for the season and now Boling due to retirement. With the way the roster is built they have a few more suitable options at guard, but somebody as solid as Clint will be missed.
Clint Boling said his decision to retire stemmed from a blood clot in his leg that was discovered a few days after the season and required him to go to the hospital. More on that later, it if it wasn’t for that, he has no doubt he’d be playing this year.
