GoBearcats:
IImar’I Thomas has been selected to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll following another strong showing in a pair of wins last week, the league announced today. Thomas, who returned to the top spot in the league with 19.2 points per game this year, helped the Bearcats to wins at Houston and a home to Tulane to push UC into sole possession of second place in the league with three games to go.
In those two games, Thomas averaged a team-high 20.5 points and 9.0 rebounds. First, on the road, she tallied her eighth double-double of the season as she scored 16 points and added 13 rebounds to help UC to its 74-65 win at UH. She followed that with Sunday’s performance in which she scored 25 points and collected five rebounds while dishing out five assists, one shy of her career high. Her 25 points, which also saw her go 7-of-7 from the line, marked the 10th time this year and 15th time in her career that she has eclipsed 20 points in a game and the sixth time this year she has gone for 25 or more.
Heading into Wednesday’s showdown with UConn, Thomas reclaimed the top spot in the American in scoring as her 500 points and 19.2 average lead the league. Also the league leader in field goal percentage (.592), Thomas is currently tied for the lead in conference only scoring at 19.3 while connecting at a league-best .614 clip.
Thomas has now collected six weekly Honor Roll awards this season to go along with a trio of AAC Player of the Week accolades. Thomas was previously added to the Honor Roll Nov. 18, Dec. 16, Dec. 31, Jan. 6 and Feb. 10 before garnering her sixth honor this week. Her player of the week awards came Nov. 25, Jan. 13 and Jan. 27.
