Per GoBearcats:
University of Cincinnati sophomore Blake Bacevich (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) was one of a record 114 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision named to the watch list for the 2020 Wuerffel Trophy
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as “College Football’s Premier Award for Community Service,” is presented each February in Fort Walton Beach. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback from the University of Florida, Danny Wuerffel, the Wuerffel Trophy exists to honor college football players who serve others, celebrate their positive impact on society, and inspire greater service in the world.
Bacevich has been one of the program’s stalwarts in community service, often leading groups on his own to take part in events at local schools and hospitals. He talked about his experience working with Ohio organization A Kid Again HERE.
He suffered a leg injury and missed the 2019 season but is on track to return for the 2020 season. He made his UC debut in 2018 as a true freshman, playing in a pair of games.
UC returns 16 of 22 starters on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, 55 letterwinners and 13 of the team’s top 15 tacklers from the 2019 team which won 11 games, the AAC East Division title and the Birmingham Bowl. The Bearcats ended the season ranked No. 21 in all three major polls, won 11 games for only the fourth time in the program’s 132 seasons and had back-to-back 11-win seasons for only the second time in school history.
The Bearcats are currently set to open 2020 on Thursday, Sept. 3 against Austin Peay inside Nippert Stadium.
