Tuesday morning Justin Williams of The Athletic dropped a huge bomb when he stated, “Cincinnati has extended Luke Fickell for six years.” Did I paraphrase it? Yes, but you get the picture. During these troubled times it is good to get some good news for #BearcatNation. While all the details aren’t out it has been reported that Fickell’s new deal will run through 2026 and his new salary will be $3.4 million a year. I’m not for sure what the buyout situation is yet in the deal or if he will get a yearly bump and bonuses, but this is news we like to see.

Sources tell @TheAthleticCIN | @TheAthleticCFB the contract runs through 2026.
Story to follow.
The extension pays Fickell $3.4 million a year starting with the 2020 season through 2026. All of the extension is funded through private donations & fundraising, according to UC athletic director John Cunningham & the UC Board of Trustees. #Bearcats

More soon @TheAthleticCIN.
Will have more as details emerge but 3.4 puts Fickell 40th in salary per the 2019 USA Today database.

Ahead of Louisville, Pitt, USC, Ole Miss, WVU, and many more P5 programs.
Private funding getting Fickell’s extension done is super important at times like these and smart by UC to be able to make that happen

The new deal puts Fickell’s contract head of some P5 school and makes him a Top 50 coach per salary. After being courted by multiple P5 schools it was smart of Cincinnati to try to extend the head coach who three years left on his deal at $2.4 million a year.
Fickell has a career record of 32-20 and during his three seasons at Cincinnati has a record of 26-13 including two 11 win seasons in a row.
