TFON talks with Olentangy Liberty (OH) OT Carter Smith about UC offer and more

JS: Can you describe what was going through your head when you received the offer from the University of Cincinnati?

CS: Well Cincinnati is an incredible football school. Even though it’s not in a P5 Conference, I consider it to be a P5 school because of their success in the past. It was very exciting having the chance to play for a great coach like Fickell and Crook.

JS: Can you describe your game and what kind of player a school would get from recruiting you?

CS: I’ve been told by many coaches that what stands out about my game is my consistent footwork, athleticism, and effort on the field. I feel schools would get a great offensive tackle if I can be developed the way they truly want me.

JS: What coaches have you been in contact with so far?

CS: So far I’ve just been in contact with Coach Crook (Offensive Line Coach) and Coach Schaffer (Director of scouting)

JS: Do you have any players that you try to mold yourself after?

CS: Not, in particular, one thing Liberty has is a fantastic coaching staff, especially for high school, which gives us a big advantage over other schools.

JS: What has your coaching staff done to help you in the last year with covid and the crazy year happening?

CS: We for summer workouts, we had 10 player groups and there were six groups per hour. We had training at 9 and 10 AM. We had to wear masks in between plays and stay spread during games. We handled it very well!

JS: What is something for this upcoming season that you would like to approve on?

CS: My ability to stay on double teams and put on a little more weight.

JS: Do you plan on visiting campus at some point either via zoom or on campus when all of craziness clears up?

CS: I have a friend down in UC that I hope to see soon, I hope to do anything I can to see and get on campus!

JS: Seeing how important offensive line in nowadays with quarterbacks this year In the NFL getting hurt and Patrick Mahomes pretty much being shut down due to his line, what is something that sticks about you compared to other lineman?

CS: Always be on your A game, it was very hard to watch the Chiefs Oline that game (I was happy about the outcome though I’m a Bucs fan) it comes to show how key the position is and one wrong decision leads to a world of hurt for you and your team.

TFON wants thanks Carter and once again congratulate him again on the offer! We wish you and your family luck in the future!
