WBB: Bearcats F Thomas earns AAC Weekly Honor Roll

University of Cincinnati women’s basketball senior forward IImar’I Thomas gained American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll accolades Monday, capping off a week of milestones and standout play. 

Thomas, the AAC Co-Preseason Player of the Year, averaged a team-best 22.5 points while shooting 66.7 percent from the field (18 of 27) with 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week for the Bearcats.

The Oakland, California, native became only the third player in program history to achieve at least 1,700 career points and 800 career rebounds when she tallied 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting with a career-high seven assists during UC’s 73-62 win at Memphis on Wednesday. 

Three days later, Thomas became one of the top five scorers in UC history Saturday when she posted 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting in a 70-51 loss to UCF.

CLIMBING CINCINNATI’S CHARTS

Thomas’ impact on UC women’s basketball continues to grow. She enters the week ranked among the top players in program history in multiple categories, including field goal percentage (first at .586), blocks (third at 116), rebounds (fourth at 822), points (fifth at 1,734) and rebound average (tied for eighth at 7.1).

NATIONAL RECOGNITITON

Thomas recently was named one of 30 candidates in the nation for the Senior CLASS Award given annually to a women’s basketball player who excels both on and off the court in the areas of academics, character, community service and basketball success.    

She was also recently selected as one of 10 semifinalists for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award.

THOMAS RANKS AMONG THE NATION’S TOP PERFORMERS

Thomas enters the week ranked among the nation’s best in several categories for 2020-21, including minutes played per game (second at 39.1), field goals made (12th  at 142), points per game (13th at 22.2), total points (21st at 378), free throws made (22nd at 87), free throws attempted (25th at 107), and field goal percentage (28th at .544).

AMONG THE BEST IN THE AAC 
Thomas lists among the AAC’s leaders in 10 statistical categories entering the week, including points per game (first at 22.2), field goal percentage (first at .544), minutes played (first at 39.1), free throw percentage (second at .813), rebounds (fifth at 7.5), defensive rebounds (fifth at 5.1), offensive rebounds (seventh at 2.4), assists (seventh at 3.4), assist-to-turnover ratio (10th at 1.6) and blocks (14th at 0.9).

AAC AWARDS
The most recent recognition for Thomas marks her fourth AAC Weekly Honor Roll selection of 2020-21. She has garnered AAC Player of the Week accolades twice as well.

Thomas earned WBCA Honorable Mention All-American and unanimous First Team All-AAC selection last season. She received AAC Player of the Week accolades three times and was a nine-time AAC Weekly Honor Roll recipient in 2019-20.  

She also earned First Team All-AAC honors as a sophomore in 2018-19 and was tabbed AAC Freshman of the Year and a unanimous All-Freshman Team selection in 2017-18.
