Sammy Anderson was a big part of the UC 2020 recruiting class adding to an already scary secondary. Anderson played in two games last year and will be looking to take a huge step forward this upcoming year. Anderson is looking to carve out some time in a cornerback room led by Ahmad “Sauce” Gardener, Coby Bryant, Arquon Bush, and Taj Ward. Anderson originally came from Dayton, Ohio as a four star prospect (top cornerback in the state) and was seen as a huge part of the Bearcats future when he was officially signed. Fickell and the coaching staff had high praise for Anderson when he got here and saw that he could have an immediate impact on this already scary defense. The Bearcats did lose a couple of people on defense mostly at the linebacker position and safety, but were able to keep their big-name corners in Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner and Coby Bryant. Anderson will have a chance to be the field a lot this year if there is any indication from the spring game.
Anderson was out on the field a lot for the first team, in coverage on the outside and in the slot guarding Josh Whyle and Michael Young, Jr. and also being matched up on speedster Will Pauling. He impressed during the spring game, securing an interception and making plays in various situations. This can lead to many different things as it could be Anderson that comes in for Bryant or Gardner when they need a breather or it could lead to Anderson getting some time at slot with Bush. The Bearcats have a good problem in trying to find playing time for everyone in the secondary, but with this amount of talent everywhere there will be plenty of options for Fickell and his staff.
Just get ready Bearcats this team is just getting started they are dangerous everywhere! They have plenty of strong linebackers, a scary secondary and probably one of the best defensive lines in all of college football. This will be a big season for UC filled with matchups ,including trips to Notre Dame and Indiana in the young guys including Anderson will look to put their name into the UC game plan and start showing what they are made of!
