Earlier this afternoon Bearcats junior left handed pitcher Evan Shawver was drafted by the Colorado Rockies with the 200th pick in the 7th round. Evan Shawver is a six-foot, 175 pound left handed pitcher from Amhearst, Ohio, where he attended Amhearst High School. Shawver played a big role for the Bearcats this season as he went 3-1 for the Bearcats with a 2.72 ERA, recording 49 strikeouts while only allowing 16 walks, and 38 hits on the season. Shawver had big outings this past season for the Bearcats that include a six inning outing versus Western Kentucky University when he struck out nine batters in those six innings while only allowing one hit. Shawver also had a tremendous outing for the Bearcats on March 12th versus Western Michigan where he recorded seven innings of six hit baseball, recording eight strikeouts and allowing no runs for the Bearcats where the ended up winning 5-1.
Since stepping on campus in 2019 Evan Shawver has appeared in 30 games for the Bearcats, 23 of those 30 games as a starting pitcher. In his first three seasons as Bearcat Shawver finished his career 8-9 with a 4.62 ERA, while recording 153 strikeouts in 130.2 innings of work. Shawver was apart of the Bearcats baseball team that played upset to top seed Oregon State in the 2019 NCAA tournament where the Beavers catcher Adley Ruschman ended up being the first overall selection in the 2019 MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
