Previewing the Bearcats next opponent: UCF Knights

The Cincinnati Bearcats are entering into Week 6 of this 2021-2022 season. Looking to capture a win against their conference rival, UCF Knights. The Bearcats are currently undefeated (5-0 and 1-0 in the AAC) and looking to defend their home game win streak of 23 games this upcoming week. UCF has a new coach in Gus Malzahn who is known for his time at Auburn. UCF is currently 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the AAC.

Notes:

The UC versus UCF rivalry has evolved throughout the years. The first meeting between schools came in 2015 with Cincinnati Bearcats winning in their first-ever matchup. UCF then went on to win their matchups against Cincinnati in the 2016, 2017, and 2018 seasons. UCF put together consecutive winning seasons those years and captured a self proclaimed National Title during that time. Since then UC has flexed their muscles the past 2019 and 2020 seasons with impressive wins themselves in both matchups.

Offense

UCF is currently averaging 36.8 points per game and 469.0 total yards, with a balanced attack per the numbers with 214.0 yards per game rushing and 255.0 yards per game passing.

Without quarterback Dillon Gabriel, UCF will be led by true freshman Mikey Keene who has a stat line of 43-68 passing for 427 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s definitely not Gabriel which is another feather in the Bearcats cap.

Injuries have hit the wide receiver room as well, but their leading receiver is Ryan O’Keefe who has 28 catches for 315 yards and a touchdown.

Johnny Richardson will be their main rusher as Isaiah Bowser has missed the last few games. Richardson has 42 carries for 297 yards and a touchdown on a 7.1 yards per carry average.

Can UCF’s offensive line hold up against the Bearcats?
