The Bearcats will welcome in Tulsa for this weekends Homecoming game, in what will be a rematch of the 2020 AAC Championship game, that resulted in the Bearcats winning on a last second field goal by Cole Smith. The atmosphere surrounding this matchup will be like no other game in school history, as Cincinnati welcomes in ESPN’s College GameDay for the first time ever. Tulsa, is coming in 3-5, but they will look and try to end the Bearcats 24 game winning streak, at Nippert Stadium.
Here is some players to keep an eye on for this weekends Homecoming game.
Shamari Brooks– Brooks is the Golden Hurricanes leading rusher, as he has 588 yards on 119 carries this season, and has found the endzone four times. Brooks averages 73.5 yards per game, so look for the Golden Hurricanes to establish the run game early with Brooks.
Tulsa’s quarterback Davis Brin, has led the Golden Hurricane offense as he has started all eight games, throwing for 2095 yards on 119 completions. He has thrown for 11 touchdowns on the season, but hes also thrown 11 interceptions, so I expect for this Bearcats defense to make him uncomfortable as possible, and be a force up front with Myjai Sanders, Curtis Brooks, Malik Vann, expect this defense to create some turnovers as he will try to get the ball away with the defense in his face, so look for Ahmad Gardner and Coby Bryant to see the ball in their ends at least once, for a turnover.
Tulsa’s leading receiver Josh Johnson, has 45 catches for 600 yards, three touchdowns, he looks to be the Golden Hurricanes number one guy on offense, as he leads the team in targets, and receptions, look for Brin, to try to find him on big plays weather especially some third down situations, as he is a deep threat for the Golden Hurricane, averaging 13.3 yards a catch, I expect him to see a good amount of targets, as Tulsa will look to line him up everywhere to get their matchup, for their number one receiver.
Tulsa’s defense is lead by cornerback Tyon Davis, who leads the team in tackles with 53, 41 of those being solo tackles, so it shows that Davis, can make the open field tackle very well as a cornerback, Davis also has seven passes broken up, which leads the team.
This Tulsa team has played some big games this season, as they were right their with No. 11 Oklahoma State, where they fell just short 28-23. They also played Ohio State earlier in the year, where they controlled most the game before the Bearcats opened it up and won 41-20, so this Golden Hurricane team will look to give the Bearcats a fight for their money, especially after the way the AAC Championship game ended, expect Tulsa to try to come out and give the Bearcats a dogfight until the final whistle.
Will the Bearcats make it 25 in a row at Nippert Stadium? Will the impress the College Football Committee in person? We will find out this Saturday at 3:30 pm. College GameDay takes place at 9 am Bearcat fans make sure to get out and support the Bearcats as they look to take on Tulsa this Saturday for the annual Homecoming game.
