It was hinted by Chad Brendel of Bearcat Journal yesterday and today ESPN’s Pete Thamel doubled down as Kerry Coombs will travel down I-71 South to become the Bearcats cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator. The man fans call Westside Jesus because of his Colerain High School coaching ties. He was defensive back coach for Cincinnati from 2007-2011, he also added assistant head coach during 2009. In 2012 he went on to Ohio State until 2017 to be a defensive back coach. He had a quick stint in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans from 2018-2019 as a defensive backs coach as well before coming back to Ohio State to do the same and be a defensive coordinator as well. He was let go by Ohio State at the end of the 2021 season after being demoted in season and now Cincinnati reaps the benefit.
Coombs is one of the best cornerbacks coaches in the nation, Cincinnati lost Perry Eliano to Ohio State who went from the cornerbacks coach to safeties coach. To lose Eliano and gain Coombs is huge, he’s also one of the best recruiters in the nation.
Welcome back Kerry!
