The University of Cincinnati have welcomed a few international players to the team and one of their names is Arame Niang. Niang is a center standing at 6-foot-3. In the Bearcats last match up was against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane this past Saturday in the Fifth Third Arena. Niang played 27 minutes, had 18 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Most of Niang shots were from inside the paint, where she managed to constantly beat her opponents in low post positions.
With more games left in the 2021-22 season she scored her season and career high 18 points in the Bearcats last game. The center scored 10 of her 18 points in the third quarter. Her second highest scoring performance was against Northern Kentucky Bellarmine in the non-conference season which was also played in the Fifth Third Arena, scoring 16 points, she also had eight rebounds and four blocks. When we compare her performance against Tulsa to her performance against Northern Kentucky, we can see that she had also scored all her points in the paint, and she scored her first points in the second quarter of both games. We can see that Niang is a player that likes to get warmed up first, but once she finds her range and flow, she can dominant her competitors, which makes it easy for her teammates to keep feeding her the ball down low.
This week the Bearcats will be traveling to Tennessee for their next match up to face the Memphis Tigers. The game will be Feb. 3rd at 7:00 pm and we can’t wait to see what Niang brings to the court. Some more fun facts about Niang is that she was born in Rufisque, Senegal and she speaks a total of three languages including English! This Senegal native speaks Wallop, which most natives speak in their homes, and she speaks French, which is the official language of Senegal. Niang went to high school in Japan, and she graduated from Kansia Gaidai University. Not only does Niang have an intriguing background, but she is a dominant player on the court.
