WBB: What’s next for the Bearcats this season?

In the year of 2022, we are celebrating 50 years of Women’s Basketball at the University of Cincinnati. Currently, the Bearcats are 10-13 overall and 3-7 in the AAC. Akira Levy, a typical starting guard for the Bearcats, did not play in the match up against Tulsa. But she did return to the court February 2nd when the Bearcats traveled to Tennessee to play the Memphis Tigers. This week, the Bearcats suffered a lost against Southern Methodist University, 71-66, despite their strong comeback efforts in the second half. At one point in the game, the Bearcats were down by 10 points. They lost to Tulane on Super Bowl Sunday 80-56.

The Tulane Green Wave have been dominating majority of their matchups with the Bearcats. The Green Wave have faced the Bearcats a total 11 times since 2014 and their record is 8-3. This season the Bearcats have shot 38% from the line. As a whole, the Bearcats are averaging 36 rebounds, 14.5 assists, 7 steals, 5 blocks and 17.8 turnovers per game. The top scorers for UC are Hayes and Levy. Jillian Hayes, the Cincinnati native, scored 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists in their last game against the SMU Mustangs. Hayes dropped 21 points and five rebounds against Tulane.

The Bearcats have two home games left against East Carolina and Memphis and two away games against USF and UCF. The Bearcats have another opportunity to face the Memphis Tigers and recover from the lost they endured last week on Feb. 2nd. The Bearcats will wrap of their season away at UCF on Feb. 26th. Currently the Bearcats have a three-game losing streak, will they be able to break it? Tune in to see, if UC can break their losing streak against USF on Wednesday at 7 pm.
