Cincinnati, Ohio- This afternoon Bearcats redshirt junior outfielder Griffin Merrit was named the AAC Player of the Year, where he led the American Athletic Conference with 17 home runs, while hitting .309 on the season, driving in 47 RBI’s, and scoring 41 runs, where recorded an OBS of 1.053% on the season. Merritt a Cincinnati native, and Former LaSalle Alumni, now joins some elite company, as he joins Chicago Cubs superstar Ian Happ as the only Bearcats to be named AAC Player of the Year, as Happ earned such honors back in 2015.
The Cincinnati kid had a huge season, and looks to continue to those statistics as the Bearcats are getting ready to kick off the AAC Tournament this week down in Clearwater, Florida as the Bearcats take on Tulane in game one of the AAC Tournament tomorrow at 9am.
