This afternoon Bearcats junior Goalkeeper Anna Rexford was named the AAC Goalkeeper of the Week after her dominant performances in the Bearcats three contests this week versus Michigan State, Bowling Green, and Murray State. The Bearcats went 1-0-2 in that three-game stretch where she recorded nine saves, and only allowing one goal, which came in the Bearcats 1-1 draw versus Bowling Green last Thursday at Cochrane Soccer Stadium.
Rexford has played a dominant part of the Bearcats success as she has been all over the box for the Bearcats. Rexford has recorded three shutouts for the Bearcats throughout their first 4 contests.
Rexford gained a lot of praise from Bearcats Head Coach Neil Stafford following the teams 0-0 draw versus Michigan State last Sunday after recording consecutive shutouts for the first time since 2019.
“As far as Anne Rexford, she was outstanding today, she continues to get better every game. I think for me right now she looks way more decisive than she ever has. She is confident, just technically what she is doing as a shot stopper making huge saves, she certainly kept us in the game today, I think her organization has also just got to another level, especially on the weak side. I think the way we were resilient on the back line with Anna, was outstanding.”
This is the first of many AAC Goalkeeper of the Year awards for the junior as she will look to anchor the net for the Bearcats as the season moves forward and will be a vital part to the Bearcats success. Congratulations to Anna Rexford on being tabbed AAC Goalkeeper of the Week.
