University of Cincinnati football head coach Luke Fickell has been named to the midseason watch list for the 2022 Dodd Trophy, the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl announced Wednesday.
Managed by Peach Bowl, Inc., The Dodd Trophy, one of college football’s most coveted national coaching awards, celebrates the head coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity – the three pillars of legendary coach Bobby Dodd’s coaching philosophy. Bobby Dodd is one of only four honorees to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as both a coach and a player.
This year’s list includes 20 college football coaches representing the AAC, ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC.
Fickell won the 2021 Dodd Trophy last season after leading the Bearcats to the greatest season in school history. He guided the Bearcats to an appearance in the College Football Playoff Semifinals at the Cotton Bowl and the first-ever 13-0 regular-season record in school history. Including the Dodd Trophy, he collected eight national coach of the year honors.
UC’s sixth-year head coach is already tied with Rick Minter for the most wins in school history (53). He will go for his 54th win to claim sole possession of the most wins in Cincinnati football all-time on Saturday at SMU (12 p.m. ET, ESPN).
Fickell is joined by Kyle Whittingham (2019), Nick Saban (2014), Dabo Swinney (2011), and Mack Brown (2008) as former winners on this year’s list. Additionally, three of last year’s finalists, Fickell, Dave Clawson, and Jim Harbaugh, are also back on the list.
