Set 3– The Bearcats would see USF come out with a different approach then the first two sets after taking a 4-3 lead, the Bulls first lead of the match, the Bearcats rallied off a 6-point run to take an 9-4 lead following consecutive aces by Maria Tobergte, her fourth of the match that would give the Bearcats a new season high in aces with 11. The Bearcats would continue to dominate the service line as this time its Eggleston with consecutive service aces that would force a Bulls timeout trailing 15-7 as they look to flip the momentum to avoid the sweep. The Bearcats would hold on to win 25-17 as the take the match three sets to 0.
The Bearcats dominated from the jump as they registered a season high 14 service aces, along with hitting .320% on the match, the Bulls just ha no answer for the Bearcats today and was an overall dominant performance here this afternoon at Fifth Third Arena.
“We played a little looser today, I think playing the game the right way we really followed the game plan. I thought we served excellent right out of the gate; I think Avry had the first 4 points to start the match and I thought her serves were excellent. I thought she did a great job putting some pressure early from the service line, but we had that all night,” said Bearcats head coach Molly Alvey.
The Bearcats were led by sophomore outside hitter Shaye Eggleston who finished with a match high 11 kills, while registering a .588% clip. Eggleston really dominated in all aspects of the game tonight as she really dominated offensively as she also recorded three service aces for the Bearcats.
“Shaye looked great today, I thought her serving too was exceptionally well, she stepped up and passed for us, which she’s done all season, I think her passing when she is locked in relieves a lot for us. I was really proud of her in that aspect,” said Bearcats head coach Molly Alvey.
Notables- Carly Glendinning registered nine kills, while Kailea Carrier recorded eight kills.
Abby Walker and Maria Tobergte recorded a match high four service aces a piece.
Emme Madden dished out a match high 29 assists.
The Bearcats improve to 6-14, 4-6 AAC on the season with their victory over USF and will be back in action this Friday when they travel to Memphis, Tennessee to take on the Memphis Tigers as they head into the heart of their conference schedule.
