Now let’s talk about the Knights defense, the Knights have a very great and mentally sound defense, and it starts right in the heart and center of the backfield with junior linebacker Jason Johnson who has recorded a team high 65 tackles and has shown to be a guy that is always around the football. The Knights also love to get after the quarterback, and it starts with junior defensive end Tra’mon Morris-Brash who has a team high 9.0 tackles for loss along with four sacks and has been a key part of the Knights success on defense. The Knights defense will look to play a huge part in stopping the high-powered Bearcats offense that comes in averaging nearly 37 points per game, along with roughly 267 yards passing per game, as senior quarterback Ben Bryant is looking to sling the rock after finishing 18-for-35 for 200 yards in the Bearcats 29-27 victory over SMU last week.
The Bearcats know they have to be on their “A” game this Saturday as the Knights are currently picked to upset the Bearcats, but for the Bearcats they may get some good news back ahead of this one as Bearcats head coach Luke Fickell said he hopes to have leading receiver Tyler Scott back after missing the SMU game due to an ankle injury suffered versus USF. The Bearcats defense will have to be playing that tough and nasty clifton style football, it will all start up front in the trenches and something to keep an eye on will be defensive lineman Jabari Taylor who also left the Bearcats contest versus SMU last week due to injury as Taylor has been a dominant role for stopping the run game and versus a run heavy offense that will be something to keep an eye on heading in.
Kick off is slated for 3:30 pm on ESPN as the Bearcats look to make it seven straight in the win column as they look to secure a huge win on the road versus a very tough and physical UCF team.
“The Bearcats know what this match up means as this matchup has turned into a rivalry match up over the last few seasons and the Knights are coming into this one with vengeance after suffering a 34-13 loss to East Carolina last week, the Knights will look to bounce back as they are looking to remain perfect at the Bounce House under head coach Gus Malzahn, who enters his third season at UCF and is looking to get the Knights back in the win column here at the midway point of the 2022 season.”
