Cincinnati football passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach Mike Brown was named a nominee for the Frank Broyles Award, given to the nation’s top assistant coach, on Tuesday.
Brown came to Cincinnati as the wide receivers coach in 2019 and picked up passing game coordinator responsibilities prior to the 2022 season.
In his four years, the Bearcats have an incredible 41-7 record to go along with two AAC Championships, two New Year’s Six Bowl berths and the 2021 College Football Playoff Semifinals appearance.
Under Brown, Cincinnati’s wide receivers have flourished. Alec Pierce (2021) and Michael Young (2020) both collected all-conference honors, while Tyler Scott is poised to earn postseason accolades in 2022.
Brown developed Pierce into the eventual No. 53 overall selection by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Pierce was a leader of one of the nation’s most potent offenses in 2021, catching 52 passes for 884 yards and eight touchdowns as Cincinnati set school records for touchdowns (70) and points (516), and No. 11 in the nation in scoring (36.9).
Scott has 49 receptions for 826 yards and nine touchdowns in just nine game this season. His touchdown total ranks eighth nationally.
Brown was a two-time All-America selection at Liberty as a wide receiver and quarterback and played three years in the NFL before starting his coaching career. He spent the 2018 season at Liberty, his alma mater, coaching the running backs.
He was selected to participate in a Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Cincinnati Bengals in the summer of 2020.
