Football Scoop was first and Eleven Warriors confirmed that Ohio State wide receiver coach/passing game coordinator Brian Hartline may be interviewing for the Cincinnati Bearcats head coach job today. Hartline is one of the potential targets TFON highlighted earlier in the week. He is one of the best recruiters in the nation and one of the best position coaches around. The 36 year old has coached Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Marvin Harrison, Jr., Jaxson Smith-Njigba and more. He’s been on the Ohio State staff since 2017, as a graduate assistant after finishing his NFL career.
This wouldn’t be the first time Cincinnati has traveled up I-71 North to get their coach, Luke Fickell was a former Ohio State assistant and minus him leaving you saw the success he had in Cincinnati. Could Hartline be next?
Football Scoop also mentioned that athletic director John Cunningham has already interviewed internal candidates Gino Guidugli (offensive coordinator/quarterback coach) and Kerry Coombs (current interim coach, cornerback/special teams coach). Guidugli has gotten a huge push from former players and current players as they have started the hashtag #Hire8. He is has been with the program since 2017 and is in the Bearcats Ring of Honor.
Rumbles that Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter is on the radar, as well as Tennessee offensive coordinator Alex Golesh (has Ohio ties as an Ohio State graduate) and James Madison’s James Cignetti.
TFON will report when we hear more about the situation and upcoming interviews.
