Per GoBearcats:
University of Cincinnati football sixth-year senior Wilson Huber capped his career on Thursday by being named a Second Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA).
Huber, who started all 13 games at linebacker and was a team captain in 2022, becomes the 13th Bearcats’ football student-athlete to collect Academic All-America honors.
The Academic All-America awards were voted on by sports information directors from across the country. Players eligible for the honor had to be selected to their respective Academic All-District teams, have at least a 3.5 GPA and be a major contributor to their teams on the field.
The 2022 Academic All-America Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field or court and in the classroom.
Most impressively, Huber is the sixth Bearcat to collect the honor since 2020 and his accomplishment marks the third straight season a UC football player has been named an Academic All-American, joining James Smith (Second Team, 2020), Desmond Ridder (First Team, 2021), Alec Pierce (First Team, 2021), Lorenz Metz (Second Team, 2021) and Bryan Cook (Second Team, 2021).
Huber is a two-time Academic All-District selection and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in finance along with a real estate license during his time on the Clifton campus.
A five-time member of the AAC Academic Honor Roll, he collected the Cotton Bowl’s Dan S. Petty Scholar-Athlete Award honoree in 2021.
For his career, he played in an unofficial school-record 62 games and made 85 tackles, 13 TFLs and five sacks. A five-year contributor on special teams, he wrapped up his career with four blocked kicks – the third-most in school history – after blocking a punt against Louisville in his final game at the 2022 Wasabi Fenway Bowl
The Indianapolis, Ind., native began his career as a tight end, making two catches, and scoring a touchdown on a fumble recovery, before transitioning to linebacker.
After appearing as a situational pass rusher and reserve for two years on defense, he emerged as a team leader in 2022, starting every game and registering 54 tackles, 6.5 TFLS and one sack.
Huber and his father, Daryl, who played tight end at UC from 1985-88, are believed to be the only father-son captain duo in school history.
Wilson Huber plans to pursue a professional football career before following his dad’s footsteps again into the financial industry.
