University of Cincinnati senior men’s basketball forward Ody Oguama has earned Academic All-District recognition from College Sports Communications (formerly CoSIDA) for his performances on and off the court.
Oguama boasts a 3.633 GPA in his interdisciplinary studies program. The Raleigh, N.C. native has started 13 games (all consecutive), averaging 5.0 points and 4.8 rebounds on 55.2 percent shooting. He is also 24-for-29 (82.8 percent) over the last four games (13.8 ppg), with his three double-figure scoring games of the season coming over that span. UC is also 8-2 this year when he gets six-plus rebounds, and his 9-for-9 shooting game against South Florida was the program’s best since Jason Maxiell’s 9-for-9 against DePaul in 2002.
Oguama was the team’s Legion of Excellence honoree in 2021-22 for having the highest GPA on the team. He is also active with the Queen City Book Club, reading books to first-fourth graders and giving insight on being in college.
To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50, be a sophomore academically and have a year-in-residence at their current school and have appeared in at least 50 percent of the team’s contest. Academic All-America voting will now last through Tuesday, Feb. 28.
