Cincinnati redshirt-sophomore defensive lineman Dontay Corleone has gained his first momentum into the 2023 season by being named to the Walter Camp Preseason All-America First Team.
Corleone is one of five sophomores on the first teams and nine when including the second. Last season, he was the first Bearcat to collect FWAAFreshman All-America honors since cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner accomplished the feat in 2019. Corleone is seeking to become UC’s third-straight First-Team All-American by the outlet, joining fellow Colerain High School alumnus Ivan Pace Jr. in 2022 and Coby Bryant in 2021. This year marks the 134th edition of the nation’s oldest college football All-America team.
The Cincinnati native and fan favorite appeared in 11 games for the Bearcats, tallying 45 tackles, 5.5TFLs, three sacks and two forced fumbles. Corleone helped lead a defense that ranked fifth in the country in yards per play allowed (4.61). He finished as the nation’s highest-graded defensive player with a rating of 93.9 according to Pro Football Focus.
Corleone collected All-AAC First Team honors and Third Team All-America accolades from the Associated Press and PFF.
Cincinnati’s spring game, presented by Skyline Chili, is Saturday, April 15 at 12 p.m. inside historicNippert Stadium. The Scott Satterfield era formally begins Sept. 2 against Eastern Kentucky.
