NM: Talk about the visit to Cincinnati as well as your experience camping with the Bearcats?
IS: The visit was great! We got a tour from recruiting assistant Peter Abrams, who showed us all the facilities, and locker room which is amazing by the way. Then, I went in sat down with offensive line coach Nic Cardwell and watched a bit of film and what sets Cincinnati apart from the other schools. I then went in did my photoshoot, where shortly after I went up to get ready for the camp. I had a great time at the camp too and I picked up two offers, Toledo during the camp and then JMU the following day.
NM: You mention offensive line coach Nic Cardwell, is their any other coaches you have been in contact with?
IS: Coach wise I’ve only talked to Cardwell since we had a connection since he was at Louisville.
NM: Awesome, talk about what you were able to showcase at Cincinnati’s camp a little bit?
IS: I was able to show my quickness off the line while doing 10 yard dashes. Then moving to one on ones I could show my punch and my strong presence in the pass game.
NM: What are your thoughts on Cincinnati going back to the Nike/Jordan aspect? What comes to mind when you see that, if you have any?
IS: I don’t really have a brand or jersey preference personally. When I see Mike and Jordan brand clothing they are very top of the line looking.
NM: What stood out to you the most about the University of Cincinnati?
IS: What stood out the most to me was the field. It being kind of underground made it something I hadn’t seen before and the surrounding area was beautiful. The new facility they are building also intrigues me a lot.
NM: When you hear Cincinnati football, what comes to your mind? Does anything stick out right away?
IS: First thing for me is Jason Kelce. He is a guy I watch a lot of film on. His agility mixed with power is something you don’t really see from a guy at 290 pounds. Cincinnati also has a great recency of winning especially over the last few years. Cincinnati has become a real deal program and the switch to the Big 12, I believe will improve this thought.
NM: You mention Jason Kelce earlier, what other offensive lineman do you model your game after?
IS: Tyler Lindenbaum since he’s a shorter guy and moves really well on his feet and also Creed Humphrey.
NM: Now let’s talk about your game a little bit. What’s some things you’re looking to improve on at these camps ahead of your junior season?
IS: What I’m looking to improve on the most at camps is improving my connections with the coach’s. junior year is a really big year so if they already know me before going into it, it will make things a lot easier down the line within the recruiting process.
NM: For people who haven’t seen any of your tape yet, how would you describe your game and what kind of player are coaches expecting to get out of you?
IS: I would say I’m a mauler. I’m great at moving people from point A to point B and make lanes for my running back. I think what coaches expect from me is to get a guy who always knows what his offensive line is doing and a proficient worker.
NM: I know it’s still early in the process for you but what do you have an official visit lined up yet?
IS: No sir not yet. Mostly all my visits will be unofficial, but I’ll be at Louisvilles BBQ in late July and I’ll also visit Kentucky later in July.”
NM: Another visit back to Cincinnati in the near future for you?
IS: I plan to make it out to a game day visit and possibly come back sometime in July.
NM: Talk about some future plans for the summer what camps will you be attending next?
IS: Tuesday, I visited Kentucky for a camp/visit, and then I went to Ohio State this afternoon. Then the rest of the camps will be Penn State, West Virgina, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Northwestern and then Wake Forest. So, I still have a pretty busy month of June, but I am very excited to showcase my abilities at those camps.
