Kings (OH) OL Kage Payne talks camping at UC

NM: Talk about your experience while camping at UC on last Tuesday?

KP: Yeah you know it was a great time as always. I love the campus and everything they have to offer. Coach Stepp and Coach Cardwell are my guys and they always make me feel right at home. The camp was very well ran and taught me a lot that I didn’t know before. The competition was great and I felt I competed very well.

NM: I see you’re from right up the road in Kings. Just talk about how exciting it is to camp at a school so close to home with everything going on around UC athletics and the move to the Big 12?

KP: Oh yeah for sure. It’s really exciting for me, being so close to Cincinnati, it really feels like somewhere I could see myself playing in the future. But, also seeing them sign with Nike/ Jordan, build new facilities, move to Big 12, etc. They’re finally getting the recognition they deserve and will continue to produce on the field.

NM: Outside of coach Stepp and Cardwell were there any other coaches you were able to talk and connect with at camp?

KP: I have talked to coach Satterfield, Director of recruiting Cass Simmons, and director of scouting Carter Wilson.

NM: Now let’s talk about your game a little bit. What should coaches expect to get out of you as a player?

KP: With me you’re going to get great footwork, great knowledge of the game and a great finisher as well. I’m always nasty on the field and play to the echo of the whistle. When I’m pulling, I get around the edge quick and run through opponents faces. When in pass protection I always keep my feet moving and make defenders take the longest possible route to the quarterback.

NM: Who are some players you model your game on whether it’s current or former players?

KP: I’d say some of my biggest role models is Quentin Nelson, Jason Kelce and Creed Humphrey. Some dudes who are super nasty and mobile and will take someone’s head off while in motion.

NM: What would it mean to you to receive a Cincinnati offer being from the Tri-State area?

KP: It would really mean the world to me. The hometown team, I went to many UC games when I was growing up. Having the coaching staff believe in me would mean so much.

NM: Talk what’s next for you this summer following a busy week of camps across the country ahead of your junior season?

KP: I actually wrapped up my final camp of the summer last week at Ohio State, so now it’s just team workouts and practice ahead of my junior season.
