Briggs, a veteran on this Cincinnati team is really embracing the motto E.A.T, (Effort, Attitude, Toughness) as the Bearcats head into the Big 12. A motto that will stick with the program as they look to take the Big 12 by storm despite being ranked 13th in the preseason polls. “However, you approach something, that is the motto you should use,” Briggs said. “Approach each training session, film study, making sure you have your grades up, so you are eligible, so approach that the same way. That motto will trickle into camp, and how we show up on September 2nd vs Eastern Kentucky. As long as we take each step, and day with that attitude, we will be able to go as far as we want.”
Briggs, was asked, what makes Cincinnati different from other schools in the Big 12. “I think Cincinnati has an unmatched culture,” Briggs told TFON. “Going through the coaching change, I’d say our culture is pretty much unmatched, unchanged, our guys in the locker room are a huge testament to that. Me being an older guy, you have guys like Emory Jones, Dontay Corleone, Deshawn Pace, we are trying to be the pillar for guys to go by and really keep that culture going, keeping it the same. I think that is what ultimately builds strong teams and brotherhoods.”
Not only are the Bearcats embracing the opportunity to play in the Big 12, but head coach Scott Satterfield is ready to take the Bearcats into the fire later this fall. Satterfield embraced that opportunity at Big 12 media days this week at AT&T Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. “It’s a great event and seems much bigger,” Satterfield told TFON. “The first word in the Big 12, is Big, and it feels big to me, this has been really neat. We are very excited, and I think events like this (Big 12 Media Days), just adds to it, you’re like man this is going to be cool, in the big 12, flying across the country and playing some of these respected teams.“
As Satterfield gears up for his first season as head coach of the Bearcats, he knows what the Bearcats have to do in order to be successful at the Big 12 level. “We are working on some of the little things, I think that will be the difference between winning and losing, the little things, and really having that toughness, grit, and fight. We have to continue to have that, as that is something Cincinnati is really known for. We have a great seat at a power five table now in a great conference. It’s a lot of excitement throughout our city, university, the buzz on campus. All of our programs are using the move to the Big 12 in recruiting, the things we are doing on campus, with this unbelievable new indoor practice facility and performance center we are working on right now. It’s incredible and we are all feeding off that, those are the things that are going to propel us forward in order to have great success in the Big 12,” said Satterfield.
46 days and counting
Satterday’s in the Nipp will be here sooner than we know it as the Bearcats inaugural Big 12 season kicks off in just 46 days as they welcome Eastern Kentucky to Nippert Stadium on September 2nd. Kickoff slated for 3:30 pm.
