Evan Prater proves to be Cincinnati through and through

Where does Prater currently sit in the wide receiver room?

Despite making the transition to wide receiver following Spring ball, he had a great Fall camp where he continued to make strides as fall camp progressed. Obviously, a transition from quarterback to wide receiver wouldn’t be something that just clicked over night, but for Prater, he has all the tools and attributes to be a dominant weapon for Scott Satterfield and the Bearcats later this Fall.

Currently one of the tallest receivers on the Bearcats roster as he is listed at 6’4″ and 208 pounds, but we all know the athleticism he brings to the table, which his speed and ability to get out and run with the ball in his hands. However, making the transition could open up a lot of different possibilities for him to really make an impact for the Bearcats, something fans have been waiting to see, after seeing glimpses of it in his limited opportunities a season ago.

But for Prater, he is looking to be a sponge within that wide receiver room that currently features a lot of veteran talent in guys like Dee Wiggins, Xzavier Henderson, Chris Scott, Donovan Ollie, Braden Smith, Sterling Berkhalter and Aaron Turner, who all have seen significant snaps throughout their playing careers.

“Those guys have helped me a ton since making the transition to wide receiver,” Prater told TFON. “Those guys have a lot of experience, all of those guys have played the position longer than I have, but just bouncing ideas and learning from them has definitely helped me so much.”

Prater continues to turn heads ahead a great Fall camp and is starting to get acclimated to that new role. Prater, not only can do so much in the open field with his speed and athleticism, but with a guy with his frame and size, he will be able to go up and be a legitimate weapon for Emory Jones and the Bearcats, but the question is when will that happen?

“Evan has some natural talent, and abilities at that wide receiver position without us even coaching him through some of those things,” said Brad Glenn. “Evan is going to be talented at that wide receiver position, but right now the question for us is when is that arrival date. Is it going to be here in fall camp, or two games into the season. I’m extremely pleased with his attitude, competitiveness, and the natural talent he has at that position.”

Scott Satterfield also chimed in on the progress of Prater at that wide receiver position following the conclusion of fall camp. “Evan has really came on strong here throughout fall camp. I do see him being able to help and contribute out there for us,” said Satterfield. “He has really picked it up nicely as a wide receiver, he can really catch the ball, runs good routes, it’s just the finer points and being a receiver is what he needs to learn.”
