This Saturday, the Cincinnati Bearcats (2-5, 0-4 Big 12) travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-2, 3-1 Big 12). The Bearcats are looking to end a five-game losing skid as they search for the first big twelve victory. Meanwhile, the Cowboys on the other hand are riding a three-game win streak of their own after a dominating 48-34 victory over West Virginia last week. Meanwhile, the Bearcats are coming off a heartbreaking 32-29 loss to Baylor despite a last chance effort in the final minutes of the 4th quarter.
“I’m very frustrated, disappointed. This is certainly not what Cincinnati football is about, I can promise you that. It’s not what we are going to be about. It starts with me,” Satterfield said following the Bearcats 32-39 loss to Baylor. “This program has had such great tradition, won a ton of games over the years and are used to winning. I hate it for our fans that come out and support us and fill Nippert Stadium.”
However, for Oklahoma State, since making the switch to Alan Bowman at quarterback they have gone 3-1 as the Texas Tech and Michigan transfer has really settled in as of late for Mike Gundy and the Cowboys. The Cowboys have all the momentum in their favor right now after rattling off three straight victories over Kansas State, Kansas and West Virginia. “Oklahoma State is a fantastic team, who has won three straights. They have a lot of confidence right now,” Satterfield said. “The switch they made about three weeks ago with Alan Bowman really set the tone for what they are going to do on offense.”
The Cowboys were led by sophomore running back Ollie Gordon, who finished with 282 yards and four touchdowns in their win over West Virginia last week. Gordon, single handily took over the game for the Cowboys in the 4th quarter of that matchup after rushing for 145 yards and three touchdowns to seal the deal for the Cowboys. Gordon was named the NCAA Doak Running Back of The Week for consecutive weeks for the first time in his career after dominant performances vs Kansas and West Virginia.
Gordan has rushed for 816 yards and eight touchdowns on 116 carries so far this season and has rushed for over 100 yards in the Cowboys last four contests. However, Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy called the Bearcats defensive line, “The Best defensive line they have seen all season.” Will Dontay Corleone, Jowon Briggs, Malik Vann, Daniel Grzesiak and company be able to get home in the Cowboys backfield and slow down the highly touted running back. That is something to keep an eye on heading into Saturday nights matchup.
