“Ollie Gordon has been tremendous the last three games,” Satterfield said. “Last week he rushed for 282 yards and four touchdowns. 145 of those came in the fourth quarter when the game was still tied. They are just leaning on him and giving him the ball and man is he producing. The unique thing about Ollie Gordon is he is 6’1″, 210 pounds. He looks a lot bigger on film, has some tremendous speed, but when he breaks out to the second level you see defensive backs just falling to the ground, Gordan hitting the sideline and going to the house. He is a very talented running back. He has great eight rushing touchdowns on the season. You have to try to jam him at the line and not let him get loose into that second level and we have seen that the last three weeks as nobody has been able to tackle him. This will be our biggest test this week and that is to stop the run.”
Defensively Oklahoma State is a very aggressive team. They play a very similar defense to Iowa State which is 3-3-5 defense which gave the Bearcats some troubles two weeks ago in their loss to Iowa State. However, a name to keep an eye on is linebacker Nickolas Martin who leads the Big 12 in tackles per game, after recording 17 tackles in two of the last three games for the Cowboys. “He can really run, and that’s the one thing that really stands about their defense is that have speed. Martin has 71 tackles and four sacks and has shown he is one of the top linebackers in the Big 12,” said Satterfield.
The Bearcats know what’s at stake heading into Stillwater and what challenges an environment like that brings to the table. For those who didn’t know, this Saturday’s matchup is homecoming for Oklahoma State, which we are hearing they are expecting around 100k plus on or around campus for Saturday’s contest per McClain Baxley of 247 Pokes. The interesting thing about Oklahoma States environment is that they bring big paddles right behind the bench and smack the walls and that provides a lot of “You think of that hostile environment, it’s a really tight sideline, the fans are right on top of you, it may be the tightest sideline I have ever seen,” Satterfield said. “The fans are right on top of you, which can be intimating but having Emory Jones play there last season, hopefully it won’t phase him. As a football team, we have to know about that environment when we get there, tune all of that out and focus on what is going on between those white lines.”
