The Cincinnati Bearcats traveled to Stillwater, Oklahoma to face Big 12 foe Oklahoma State Cowboys. Cincinnati game into the game 2-5 and 0-4 in the Big 12 while Oklahoma State came in 5-2 and 3-1 in the Big 12. Looking to break their five game losing, while the home team was looking to keep their three game winning streak alive. Would Cincinnati be able to get their first Big 12 win?
Oklahoma State struck first when Alan Bowman hit Josiah Johnson for a 29 yard touchdown. The following drive Cincinnati drove down the field with ease, stalled out in the red zone and Carter Brown missed the 23 yard field. (hit the left goal posts) After the defensive held up, the following drive Myles Montgomery took one to the house from 63 yards out to tie the game up. Bryon Threats caused a fumble of Ollie Gordon that Jack Dingle recovered. Cincinnati wasn’t able to score off the turnover, but the Bearcats game to Stillwater to compete. Oklahoma State was able to reclaim the lead with a 28 yard field goal by Alex Hale. (10-7) Oklahoma State’s kicker Alex Hale missed a 40 yard field goal with a little over 3 minutes left in the second quarter giving the Bearcats some life before the half. Cincinnati had the ball on the Oklahoma State side of the 50 and while scrambling Emory Jones fumbled giving the home team a shot at adding on the lead before the half. The defense held strong as Jordan Young intercepted the ball with 10 seconds left in the half.
In the first half Cincinnati held Gordon to 60 yards, Montgomery has 90 yards and Corey Kiner has 56 yards. Cincinnati is outgaining Oklahoma State 258 to 253.
On 3rd and 1, Gordon busted a 42 run, that was followed by a 15 yard touchdown from Bowman to Brennan Presley giving Oklahoma State a 17-7 lead. The next drive was super important for the Bearcats and Jones was picked off by Cam Epps, Oklahoma State capitalized off the turnover with a 9 yard touchdown run by Gordon to take a 24-7 lead. The third quarter hasn’t been kind to the Bearcats so far and they are on the ropes. Oklahoma State scored again with a Presley 1 yard touchdown to push the lead to 31-7. Brady Lichtenberg hit Aaron Turner for a nice 21 yard touchdown to cut the score to 31-13 after the failed 2 point conversion. Gordon scored again from 75 yards out and Elijah Collins tacked on a 26 yard run to push the score to 45-13.
Saturday was bad for the Bearcats, after the half they were worked 35-6. Oklahoma State had 601 yards, 315 of those on the ground. Gordon had 25 carries for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Lichtenberg finished the game for Jones, who will start next week? Montgomery wasn’t able to finish the game as he tweaked something right before the half.
Cincinnati is now 2-6 and 0-5 in the Big 12, the streak is now six games, they will face UCF at Nippert Stadium on Saturday will they get right?
