Earlier this summer the University of Cincinnati announced its 2023 Hall of Fame class featuring Antwan Peek (FB 1998-2002), Ann Thomas (WSOC 1997-2001) Chris Wineberg (Track and Field 2001-2004) and Corie Blount (MBB 1991-1993).
Blount was a member of the historic 1992 Final Four team, as well as the 1993 Elite Eight squad. Blount averaged 9.4 points and 7 rebounds during his stellar Bearcat career and ended up being a first round draft selection, (25th overall) to the Chicago Bulls back in 1993. Blount had a historic NBA career where he played 11 tremendous seasons, eight of those came with the Lakers and Bulls. Blount was a staple for the Bearcats during his time at Cincinnati and has been a key impact on the University of Cincinnati’s basketball program ever since.
“It has been an amazing journey,” Blount said. “This has given me the ability to look back at some of the things and figure out why, but then when I look back the answers are right there. I had a hell of a career here at the University of Cincinnati and made a huge impact. I was a part of the resurrection team and it’s a true honor. I am glad and thank God I chose this University.”
Blount shared his true emotion when asked about his emotions on getting the phone call that he was being inducted into the Bearcats Hall of Fame. “Well, I’m not much of a crier, but that one almost broke me down man,” Blount said. “It made me reflect back on all the sacrifices and things I was a part of here at the University of Cincinnati. It’s easier for me to accept me being acknowledged tonight, but man I wouldn’t be here tonight without my team. That was the most unique group of guys I have ever played with, there was no I or me, it was all about us. When I think back about that, im just sitting here representing all of us here tonight.”
Hall of Fame coach Bob Huggins was in attendance tonight to see Blount get inducted into the hall of fame. Huggins coached Blount and the Bearcats during his time at the University of Cincinnati. “Coach Huggins always comes to all of my big events and moments in life,” said Blount. “I don’t think he would miss this one, he said like everyone else, well deserved and it seems like a cliche word because everyone says it, but I guess it is really meant then.”
