Peek was a three-time starter for the University of Cincinnati football team at the defensive end position. Peek helped lead the Bearcats to three straight bowl efforts, and their first conference title in almost 40 years. Peek currently holds the all-time record for sacks (27.0), tackles for loss (56), forced fumbles (17) and blocked kicks (7).
Peek was drafted in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans where he would go on to play for four seasons before spending his final season with the Cleveland Browns. Since retiring from the NFL, Peek is now the head football coach for the Princeton Vikings here in Cincinnati, and also sees his son Antwan Peek, Jr. playing for his alma mater almost 20 years later.
“It’s a huge honor to be inducted into the hall of fame with this class,” said Peek. “Corie Blount called me about a month ago and said, hey this is a different type of brotherhood. We get to go into this class together. I told him he was right, and I appreciate him,” said Peek.
Peek Jr, has some big shoes to fill in honor of his father here at the University of Cincinnati. Peek Jr, started his career as a walk on before being placed on scholarship prior to the 2023 season. “As a father you always want to do something that makes your kids proud, for my kids to be able to see me get inducted into the hall of fame, for Antwan to be here at the University of Cincinnati and be a part of that, is a special moment for me,” said Peek.
Earlier this week Peek, Jr., joked with the media saying his father was a little ore happy about going into the Hall of Fame compared to his son playing at his alma mater. “I heard the questions in the press conference the other day, Antwan was a little wrong, I am more excited about him playing than I am the Hall of Fame, but its special as well.”
Chris Wineberg joins his wife and Olympic gold medalist Mary Wineberg in the Hall of Fame after a stellar track and field career. Wineberg attended the University of Cincinnati in 2001-2004 where he was a two-time C-USA decathlon champion in 2002 and 2004 and was named a USTFCCCA All-American in the event in 2004. Wineberg recently returned for his 17th season as associate head coach for the Bearcats Track and Field team and has quickly become one of the most decorated track and field coaches in the country with a very impressive resume.
“This is a really special honor. Mary and I were trying to figure out if we were the only married couple in the hall of fame at the University of Cincinnati. I am truly honored to be inducted to the hall of fame with my wife Mary and share this experience with her, it’s pretty special,” Wineberg told TFON. “
The final member of the 2023 Hall of Fame class was soccer standout Ann Thomas who played soccer at the University of Cincinnati from 1997-2001. Thomas was named All-Conference USA team twice in her career, after picking up first team honors her senior season back in 2001. Thomas helped anchor the Bearcats to the Sweet 16 of the 2001 NCAA tournaments en route to the Bearcats best tournament finish in program history.
