Bearcats begin multi-team event Friday against Detroit Mercy

The Detroit Mercy Titans fell 94-60 to Toledo in their season-opener Monday night. Graduate student guard Donovann Toatley led the way with 20 points with senior guard Jayden Stone adding 15 points. The Titans shot over 50 percent from the field Monday night, but they turned the ball over 23 times juxtaposed to just 13 assists. Toledo dished out 18 assists against nine turnovers.

Leading the Titans is sixth-year head coach Mike Davis. Don’t know him? Davis holds the distinction of succeeding the late Bob Knight at Indiana in September of 2000. He then led the Hoosiers to four NCAA Tournaments in six seasons, including a trip to the national championship game in 2002.

In five seasons with Detroit Mercy, the Titans finished third in the Horizon League in 2020-21, but have not finished higher than sixth in any other of Davis’s five seasons as head coach.
