A few moments ago, the NCAA came to agreement with the seven-state attorney generals that would extend the temporary restraining order that was ordered in federal court this past Wednesday and extend the restraining order all the way to the conclusion of the 2023-2024 basketball season. West Virginia judge John Preston Bailey and the NCAA Agreed to the terms late this afternoon.
A massive win for Dave Yost and the other attorney generals involved in the multi-state lawsuit against the NCAA regarding the two-time transfer rules. Yost, announced the news with an in-depth explanation of what this means in terms of the players who are currently slated to play after sitting out awaiting the NCAA decision on their waivers.
“No retaliation against the players that do decide to play during the temporary restraining order.”
“The Temporary Restraining Order is converted to a preliminary injunction, that will last to the end of spring sports.”
This takes place after Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost made a call to the NCAA This morning according to his twitter (X) Account, stating “We have a call to try and resolve all of this this morning. But, just in case, we have a lawyer on the road to the federal courthouse.” Safe to say the NCAA has finally agreed to do the right thing here and let these young student athletes play.
Now what does this mean for Jamille Reynolds?
Reynolds was one of three players that took the stand on Wednesday in the initial court case regarding the two-time waiver process. However, the Temporary restraining order granted on Wednesday initially stated that players could play in that 14-day time frame but would potentially risk losing a year of eligibility if the Temporary Restraining Order was overturned on December 27th. However, with that being changed moments ago and the temporary restraining order being extended through the spring sports season, it now means Jamille Reynolds is able to suit up for the Bearcats for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season.
Also means no matter of the outcome surrounding this issue within the NCAA that Reynolds, and other two-time transfers would not face any punishment as this court case shakes out between the seven states and the NCAA.
This is a massive win for the Reynolds and the Bearcats, as Jamille Reynolds now joins a frontcourt that features Aziz Bandaogo, Viktor Lakhin and Ody Oguama. The Bearcats have the depth and size that they have been waiting for, which is arguably the tallest team they have had since 2017 roughly.
