For the first time under Wes Miller, Cincinnati Men’s Basketball program looks to have arguably the best roster on paper since the 2018-2019 season, which was the final season under now current UCLA head coach Mick Cronin.
However, for Miller he made it known that Cincinnati was going to target the most sought-after players in all of college basketball whether that’s in the transfer portal or in the high school ranks.
“We see this as one of the great programs in all of college basketball,” Miller told reporters earlier Wednesday afternoon. “The best players should want to play here at Cincinnati. We are going to continue to go after guys that we think are the best players that fit what we value, and the things that this city and University value as well. We are not afraid to fail in recruiting, we have these guys that continue to say yes, despite having these options to leave year after year, so that is something that I am proud of for sure.”
One of the biggest additions this offseason was someone that Cincinnati is very familiar with, in former South California forward Arrinten Page. A Top 50 player in the 2023 recruiting class that ultimately chose the Trojans over the Bearcats coming out of high school, but for Wes Miller and his staff they made sure to seal the deal once Page entered the transfer portal based off their previous relationship dating back to their time recruiting Page out of high school.
As many people know the importance of building relationships when it comes to recruiting these young athletes are crucial for many reasons. However, in a situation like this one its pretty unique to see considering that the staff was very familiar with Page and his family coming out of high school.
Despite Page’s freshman season not going fully as planned at Southern California where he averaged just three points, two rebounds on 50% field goal shooting it was safe to say for Miller and the Cincinnati staff they weren’t too worried about the statistics on paper following Page’s freshman season due to their extensive recruiting analysis and film studies.
