2012 SEC College Football Preview

The SEC looks to Continue their dominance by winning their 7th straight National Championship.

3 Things

1. Hog Wild In Arkansas

The consensus is that LSU and Alabama are not only the two best teams in the SEC but they just might be the two best teams in the country. Arkansas might have something to say about that. The Tigers and The Crimson Tide have dominate defenses but might have some question marks on O. The one thing people are sure about in Arkansas is their O. Led by Tyler Wilson at QB and Knile Davis at RB the Razorbacks will be able to score with the best of them. If they can find the receivers to replace the talent they lost then they might just be able to sneak past the two top teams in the west.

2. Same Old Story.

If Arkansas can’t shock the world is it possible that we can see the exact same thing play out like last year? Out of 14 BCS Championships Alabama and LSU has 4(two a piece) Alabama has to replace some defensive stars from last year but they don’t rebuild they reload. Eddie Lacy replaces Trent Richardson and A.J. McCarron returns for his 2nd year as a starter  for an Alabama team looking for their 3rd championship in four years. LSU has to break in new QB Zach Mettenberger which might be a positive in the fact that the last 3 champions had first year starters at QB. They also have to make up for the lost of Tyrann Mathieu but they have talent at that position and should be in the hunt for another championship.

3. Return to Greatness.

Out of those 14 championships the SEC has 8. The Cam Newton led Auburn Tigers have one, you know about Bama and LSU, and the other 3 belong to Florida and Tennessee. Florida and Tennessee are both storied programs with rich traditions and famous alums, but the past few years hasn’t been great for either team. Could this be the year the Gators and the Vols return. The Gators have alot of talent on defense but need one of their two 2nd  year QBs to step up. Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel are both talented but struggled at times last year. The one that steps up takes the job could be leading the Gators back to glory. Tennessee has one of the best passing games in the country. Even after losing Dar’rick Rogers the Vols or very dangerous. Tyler Bray and Justin Hunter could be the best qb to reciever combo in the country.

Surprise Team

It seems to be six teams people say have a shot at the SEC Championship and Auburn is usually not one, but Auburn has two new Coordinators and a strong running game led by Ontario McCalebb. If sophomore qb Kiehl Frazier can play solid then Auburn could shock some teams. In the tough SEC Auburn gets Arkansas, Georgia and LSU at home and play Alabama last game of the season when both teams know whats at state.

The Rest.

South Carolina and Georgia are the top two teams in the East. The Gamecocks have one of the toughest schedule while the Bulldogs have one of the easiest. Texas A&M and Missouri joins the SEC while Mississippi St and Vanderbilt wishes they could leave. Both are good teams and could be top 3 in the Big East but just middle of the pack in the SEC. Kentucky and Ole Miss will probably not win a game.
