Before I get started with this post you see what I did there?
The Stanford vs USC game was one of the game of the week picks for us during week 3 in college football in boy did it live up to the billing. From the jump you could tell it was going to be a tight contested game. A lot was on the line for the #2 ranked Trojans because every game counts.
USC QB Matt Barkley was a Heisman hopeful before this game but his status took a bit of a dip.
USC also had national championship hopes coming into this game but those hopes dimmed a little bit after this game.
To sum it up the Cardinal pulled off a big upset at home. They popped the Trojans 21-14. They were underdogs at home which was very understandable with their All-American QB now playing in the NFL even with stud back Stefan Taylor and a stout defense nobody including myself gave them much of a chance. To get straight to the point we all were wrong. The Cardinal didn’t believe the hype in shook up the world and rankings. Stanford shot up to #9 in the polls.
The aftermath for the Trojans is they are broken but not totally out of the hunt they need the Cardinal to keep winning *most of their game except against Oregon*. If that happens and USC takes out Oregon possibly twice with a little luck they may find themselves back in the title hunt.
Barkley’s Heisman aspirations are on halt as for right now but with a strong showing against Oregon he may be able to slide back into talks if the other hopefully slip up.
Shoutout for the Cardinal pulling off a big upset, which is one of the main reasons we love college football so much.
