Former High School Teammates Devon Moore and Trey Burke were two of 85 student-athletes announced as candidates for the 2013 Bob Cousy Award as the top point guard in men’s college basketball. Both student-athletes hail from Columbus, Ohio were they attended Northland High School. Both Moore and Burke played under James “Satch” Sullinger. While at Northland High School they wreaked havoc in the City League Division as well as the whole state of Ohio. A few years later and hundreds of miles apart the two of them they are continuing to give wreak havoc together on the collegiate level.
Trey Burke is a household name, and was named to the preseason All-American team this year. Burke is the catalyst for the Michigan Wolverines who is No.2 team in the country. Burke is averaging 17.8ppg and 7.4 asst per game and will likely end up being on every team with “All” at the beginning of it as well as being in play for Big Ten and National Player of The Year.
Moore on the other hand does not have the national stature that Burke has, but the talent is there. Moore was recently named CAA player of the week and has his James Madison Dukes ready for conference play in the CAA after a rough start. Moore is having his best season yet averaging 11 ppg, and leading the CAA in assist with close to 5 per game.Moore has been a four year starter at JMU, and has over 1,000 pts, and close to 400 assists. This is Moore’s second time(2009-2010 season) being named to the Cousy candidacy list which is a great achievement for playing a mid-major university.
Both players have different styles of play, but they get the job done for their respective teams. Burke has the opportunity to freelance in Jon Beilien’s offense and is the engine behind the Wolverine’s success. The silky smooth Moore is a 6-4 point guard that is a facilitator for his team, but when the game is on the line he has the ability to take over when needed.
No matter who wins the award it is a win-win having Devon Moore and Trey Burke having the opportunity to win such a prestigious award on a National level. #OhioAgainstTheWorld
