Schaub may be the real problem

schaubOver the last two years we have seen with our own eyes the transformation of the Texans from a  mediocre team to a team on the cusp of being elite. It’s been nice seeing them transform they last two years they have controlled the AFC South Division. Winning brings more media attention and more eyes to your team in general. Once that starts happening we the people start seeing what are the strengths and weaknesses of their team.

If you look at the stats themselves you would think Matt Schaub is damn near an elite QB. I’m here to say on a fantasy standpoint he is always top ten but when you get to see the Texans more on your tv screen you start to notice when the lights are on Mr. Schaub normally doesn’t play to hot. Three games I saw Mr. Schaub lay an egg in were against the Packers and Patriots *twice*. Each big game he saw the Texans get trampled and if it wasn’t for Arian Foster they wouldn’t stand a chance.

The Texans are a team who has good weapons at the skill positions, you can’t argue that. What we can argue is whether not Schaub is the one who can lead the Texans to the promise land. Because Houston isn’t in a media hot bed as New York, Chicago or Boston to name a few, Schaub hasn’t had to feel the heat of coming up short in the big games. You can’t win every game we know that but you can show fight in each game and not look like the invisible man on the field.

I personally thought last year if the Texans had Schaub for the playoffs they would have had won the Super Bowl or worst beat the Ravens for a chance to represent the AFC for the Super Bowl. Schaub got hurt mid-season and the Texans were down to their 3rd string QB TJ Yates who played very well until the Ravens playoffs game. After believing very strongly in the IF Schaub was healthy theory this year he proved I might be a fool for believing in that theory as he let the Patriots drag his team over the field. If you check his game stats you will think he had a solid game but those stats are of the fluff variety. He had over 300 plus yards and a few tds but in the first half when the Texans could have taken early command of the game he didn’t make the routine passes that could have sent a shock to the Pats at home. He had an early drop that was a TD pass to Casey but the next throw he had Johnson wide open and he throw the rock to the first row, allowing the Pats to make a stand by only settling for a field goal. That was pretty much the beginning of the end because Schaub failed to match Brady in the duel as Brady sent the Texans packing.

Will Schaub improve in the big games? I know sometimes it take a few games for people to get their feet wet but if the Texans are to take the next step as a franchise , Schaub will have to take the next step as a QB. If not they may have to start searching for the guy who is going to take them to the next level.
