The 2004-2005 college hoops season was a pretty good one for the University of Cincinnati. Being a student on campus during that time it was an electric environment when the hoops team took the floor. The 2004-2005 season was the last time the Bearcats played in the Conference USA, and also the last year Bob Huggins roamed the sidelines. At the time they had a very deep team with five players averaging over 10.0 ppg. One of the bright spots on that team was the high-flying James White, who is known for his dunking abilities was the teams best perimeter defender and playmaker. Standing at 6’8 White had the ability to play and guard three positions. Out of high school many expected White to be a superb scorer, but his overall all-around game was always overlooked during his college career. During that season White averaged 10.2 pts, 4.8 rebs, 3.1 assists, and he also shot 38% from three-point land. During that season White was the ultimate team player, and took on whatever role his team needed on any given night. Whether it was guarding Chris Paul or shouldering the scoring load White was always up for the task at hand. The Bearcats fell short in the second round of the NCAA Tournament losing to the Kentucky Wildcats it was still a good year for them. Let’s take a trip down memory lane to see what James White remembers most about his March Madness experience.
RH: First off, Do you remember your missed dunk in the Kentucky game?
JW: “Yeah, that was greatest miss of all-time, you got a great memory lol.”
RH: What was your greatest memory during the NCAA tournament?
JW: “My greatest memory in the NCAA tournament was playing against Kentucky in the RCA Dome in Indiana. It was so hyped. So many people were there, Nick Lachey (Yes, that Nick Lachey) was there. Kenyon Martin and Demarr Johnson came in with big ass fur coats on lol. Kentucky had Rajon Rondo, Chuck Hayes, and a couple of other guys it was also a great game.”
