“Tressel for President” echoed throughout the Horseshoe and The Ohio State University campus from 2001-2011. Tressel led The Ohio State Buckeyes to three BCS National Championship games, winning it all in 2002 while going 14-0. He led OSU to six Big Ten Championships, a 5-4 bowl game record (4-3 in BCS bowl games), and a 8-1 record against Michigan (seven of these wins coming consecutively). We may all get our wish as Tressel has been offered the position of President of Youngstown State University.
Tressel’s tenure at The Ohio State University ended in May of 2011 amid a NCAA investigation that found Tressel had indeed violated rules stemming from players selling memorabilia in exchange for tattoos. Following his firing Tressel was hired as a consultant for the Indianapolis Colts from 2011 to 2102, and has been the President of Strategic Engagement for the University of Akron since 2012.
Tressel has a long history at Youngstown State University. He was head football coach from 1986 to 2000. He led the Penguins to four Division I-AA championships. He earned four Coach of the Year Award and the team had an overall record of 135-57-2. Tressel and wife Ellen have been major contributors to YSU, donating money to build an indoor athletic facility named Tressel and Watson Training Site and Andrew Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
You can call him “The Senator”, “The Vest”, or “Tressel Ball”. But soon enough we may call him: President.
Tressel is the man, he’s not even coaching anymore and he’s still holding it down.
